Student mixologists hone their skills for future employment at Drinks Creation Challenge 2020

12 November 2020, Singapore - Shaking, muddling, blending, and layering are just some of the techniques used by mixologists to concoct their signature mocktails and cocktails in the bartending field. While the skills by mixologists are dazzling to the audience, many would have had spent years in training before they are confident enough to flaunt their craft especially in competitions.

The competition for students who aspire to be mixologists will be organised at a hybrid event in keeping with the new normal. It is important for the bartending and F&B industries to recognise up-and-coming talents. For these students, competitions are essential platforms for them to hone and showcase their skills in front of a panel of industry experts representing F&B manufacturing and distribution, fine dining and sommelier organisations, and institutions of learning in the discipline of hospitality. Their fellow teachers, students, families, and friends will be able to catch them in action via a live Facebook streaming event.

In the spirit of showmanship and competition, students at ITE College West’s School of Hospitality are taking the very first steps in their journey into the world of mixology at the annual “F&N The Greatest Mix - Drinks Creation Challenge 2020”.

Co-organised by F&N Foods and ITE College West’s School of Hospitality, the competition is an opportunity for students aspiring to be mixologists to display their skills and talent to judges by creating their very own mocktails comprising up to five ingredients.

During a recent semi-final round, a total of 18 contestants impressed judges with their skills via video submissions where they demonstrated their confidence in showmanship, techniques, and creative flair. In the upcoming final round, 10 contestants will be evaluated based on taste, creativity, and how their creations are presented. These students have truly earned their way into the finals with grit and determination.

One of Singapore’s leading mixologists, Isz Valentino who is no stranger to flairtending competitions, will display his craft at the event. Isz started his career in bartending nine years ago and sharpened his skills in mixology. He is known for his signature cocktails which are inspired by Asian influences, and he curates cocktails to pair up with unconventional food menu which serves a ‘guerrilla style’ Chinese cuisine.

The panel of judges will comprise industry leaders – Ms Celine Tan (Marketing Director, Beverages, F&N Global Marketing), Mr Steven Chen (Director of Operations, Fine Dining, Crystal Jade & President of Association Bartenders Sommeliers Singapore), and Ms Denise Tan (Director, School of Hospitality, ITE College West).

You and your reporting/camera crew are cordially invited to attend the finals of F&N The Greatest Mix - Drinks Creation Challenge 2020 to capture the students’ finest moments at the competition as they whip up their delicious and unique creations, be it shaken, stirred, or blended.
