The National Supermarket Association of Japan [Head Office: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, Chairman: Kiyoshi Yokoyama (CEO of ARCS COMPANY, LIMITED)] will hold the 56th SUPERMARKET TRADE SHOW 2022 from February 16 (Wed.) to 18 (Fri.), 2022, in Makuhari Messe, Chiba. The event provides a venue to disseminate the latest information on supermarkets and the distribution industry.
Following on from the previous event held under the corona, this year's exhibition is designed to meet the needs of new lifestyles, with exhibitors, visitors and we, the organizer working together to provide a safe and secure environment for business negotiations.
We hope that with the help of exhibitors and visitors from all over the country, this exhibition will contribute to the creation of a prosperous local community in Japan.
The tradeshow will be held with the number of 1,715 companies and organizations exhibiting with 3,016 booths (as of November 1, 2021). This year, over 1,200 Japanese regional product manufacturers will exhibit thanks to the coordination of municipalities and local financial institutions from across Japan. A total of 52 overseas companies / organizations from 6 countries are participating with 67 booths introduces a wide selection of products from various countries.
As a new organizer’s project, we have created a new "Food Trend Zone" with two trend themes: "Beauty & Health x Food" and "Sustainability x Food". Visitors to this zone will be able to find out about the latest trends and products. As in the previous edition, the seminar program will also be available online, allowing visitors to attend outside the exhibition period. Other ongoing projects include "Hand-Made NIPPON", which Exhibition and business meeting event providing the latest information to supermarkets and the food distribution industry "SOU NIPPON – Creation Japan" brings together regional sake brewers from all over Japan, "Business Matching@SMTS2022", a hybrid of real and online individual business meetings, and "JETRO Food Export Online Business Meeting (SMTS)", an online business meeting with overseas buyers.

Food Trend Zone (Hall 4, 5 and 6)
In response to the diversification of food trends as well as the diversification of health values, a new "Food Trend Zone" has been established, which has been developed and expanded to incorporate noteworthy trends
other than health into the Care Foods Zone. This zone will introduce the latest trend information and products to visitors (30 exhibitors).
(1) "Beauty & Health x Food": Products that help create a beautiful and healthy mind and body.
(2) "Sustainability x Food": Products that take sustainability into consideration.
Hand-Made NIPPON- Theme zone displaying alcoholic beverages made in Japan (Hall 1)
We will introduce the "techniques" and "sentiments" of the creators who prioritize local regions and focus on quality that respect the traditions of Japan. ”Sake”, “Shochu”, “craft beer” and "Japanese wines" will be main products (40 exhibitors).
Food safety and security measures (Hall 4)
A booth will be set up in the Equipment and Material Zone to disseminate information on food safety in food supermarkets, including HACCP, an international standard (4 exhibitors).
JETRO Food Export Online Business Meeting (SMTS)
Online export business meeting for Japanese food products organized by JETRO will be held in the week before SMTS2022. Individual business meetings will be held to connect overseas buyers and SMTS exhibitors online and provide opportunities to develop overseas sales channels.
Product Search (Exhibit product search on the official website)
Exhibitors’products/services information will be published on the official website from December, 2021 gradually. It will help buyers to check products and company information and narrow down target products in advance.
