Introducing THE 55th SUPERMARKET TRADE SHOW 2021; exhibition and business meeting event providing the latest information to supermarkets and the food distribution industry from all over Japan

The National Supermarket Association of Japan [Head Office: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, Chairman: Kiyoshi Yokoyama (CEO of ARCS COMPANY, LIMITED)] will hold the 55th SUPERMARKET TRADE SHOW 2021 from February 17 (Wed.) to 19 (Fri.), 2021, in Makuhari Messe, Chiba. The event provides a venue to disseminate the latest information on supermarkets and the distribution industry.

As the trade show that supports new lifestyles, we, the organizer, exhibitors and visitors, will work together to take safety measures and strive to provide a safe business negotiation environment.

The environment surrounding supermarkets has changed significantly in COVID-19 pandemic. At the commemorable 55th anniversary of SMTS, we renewed our perception of the ways of distributing information at the exhibition both in real and virtual to be adapted to the new era through the five senses. We hope the tradeshow will contribute to the building of abundant regional communities in Japan through the efforts of the
exhibitors and visitors from throughout the country.

The tradeshow will be held with the number of 1,472 companies and organizations exhibiting with 2,479 booths (as of November 15, 2020). This year, over 1,000 Japanese regional product manufacturers will exhibit thanks to the coordination of municipalities and local financial institutions from across Japan. A total of 21 overseas companies / organizations from 6 countries are participating with 44 booths introduces a wide selection of products from various countries.

As the annual organizer’s project, seminars and Buyer College (experts give special lectures for buyers), will be held as a webinar, and it will be opened also outside the exhibition hours.

Other annual organizer’s projects are as follows; "Hand-Made NIPPON": gathers local brewers from all over Japan, "Business Matching@SMTS2021": exhibitors are able to participate in real or online, and "JETRO Food
Export Online Business Meeting (SMTS)": complete online business meetings with overseas buyers.

An online export business meeting for Japanese food products organized by JETRO will be held in conjunction with SMTS2021. Connecting overseas buyers and SMTS exhibitors online and holding individual business
meetings as the platform to develop overseas sales channels.

Exhibitors’products/services information will be published on the official website from January, 2021 gradually. It will help buyers to check products and company information and narrow down target products in advance.

Please note that some operations of the press room service will be changed from usual in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infections.

The opening ceremony is currently scheduled on Feb. 17th (9:30-), the first day of the exhibition.
The detailed information will be informed as soon as it's fixed.
In addition, the reception party in the evening on the second day of the show will not be held this time from the
viewpoint of preventing the spread of COVID-19 infections.
