EXPO’s reopening shows real event market demand
Nov 20, 2020

Shenyang, 20 November 2020 -- ( ASIA TODAY ) -- Pent up market demand for exhibitions and meetings is clearly indicated as northeast China’s newest and most modern exhibition and meeting venue has reopened. The Shenyang New World EXPO in Liaoning province’s capital has experienced great success as renewed event bookings have occurred and as the impact of COVID-19 decreases within the region.

EXPO General Manager Diane Chen says, “I am confident the rapidly booked activity following our reopening in late July clearly indicates that the demand for such venues throughout the region, as well as within all of China, is significant.”

EXPO, as a relatively small regional venue to most in China, has experienced 16 events in the last four-month period through November 17th all quickly booked at what was initially thought to be a risky time. The ultimate reopening followed several attempts to reopen during the summer that were interrupted by four different delays due to new outbreaks of COVID-19 within the region. However, once open, event attendance during the period was 190,905 with no reports of health issues during or following the events.

Also noted is that the event mix included exhibitions, meetings, smaller local and regional events, and the prominent China Korea Investment and Trade Expo and concurrent Liaoning International Fair for Investment and Trade drawing a cumulative attendance of 68,365 during the 11-17 November event period.

Additionally, significant was the attendance at: the 2020 Northeast Asia Catering Conference, the 6th (Shenyang) Huajiao Catering EXPO Conference (28,710), 22-26 Oct; The 42nd Northeast (Shenyang) Asia Pacific Beauty & Cosmetics Fair (12,970), 20-24 September; and 2020 Liaoning Plant Protection Product Fair (12,322), 16-19 September.

Previous EXPO management company Chairman and current Senior Executive Advisor Cliff Wallace said, “The vigilance, ongoing staff attention, and emergency preparedness of the EXPO staff, as well as the proactive response of Shenyang’s government to combat the pandemic, is leading to a recovering exhibition and meeting industry within Shenyang and the region. I remain very optimistic.”
